A key area of the Western Australian Curriculum is the General Capabilities. One aspect of this is the Personal and Social Capabilities which focus on students developing personal and social capability as they learn to understand themselves and others, and manage their relationships, lives, work and learning more effectively. This capability involves students in a range of practices including recognising and regulating emotions, developing empathy for others, understanding relationships, establishing and building positive relationships, making responsible decisions, working effectively in teams, handling challenging situations constructively and developing leadership skills. The You Can Do It program assists the school to develop these skills with evidence based research and resources to guide teachers in this area.
The You Can Do It program has been a part of City Beach Primary School since 2018 and will continue to underpin the Social and Emotional Learning program (SEL) 2021. The students are familiar with the language around the 5 Keys to Success and the character values that form the YDCI program. These are promoted through the Treasure Chest Award System at weekly Stand Up Assemblies and City Beach Radio, daily in classrooms and by all staff across the school. Information about You Can Do It will be shared with the school community each fortnight in the newsletter.
