“We are all parts of a whole. Our individual actions, conversations, behaviours and mindsets can have an impact on our larger society. Collectively, we can make change happen. Collectively, we can each help to create a gender equal world. We can all choose to be #EachforEqual.” International Women’s Day 6 March 2020
As educators, parents, and caregivers who are surrounded by children from 0-12 years of age, we can use International Women’s Day as an important opportunity to educate and inspire children about the role of women in society today.
Our school community is filled with great examples of what women can, and do achieve across so many different fields: scientists, athletes, researchers, lawyers, doctors, biologists, dentists, media relations, physiotherapists, teachers, accountants, architects, advertising agents, engineers, company directors, nurses, professors…the list really is endless!
This diversity in the achievement of women is certainly worth acknowledging and celebrating! Conversations that challenge gender stereotypes and bias, support the main purpose of International Women’s Day.
At City Beach Primary School, we focus on educating the minds of today and the citizens of tomorrow. We can make a difference to children’s understanding and knowledge of gender equality at the grassroots, both at home and at school. Our role and responsibility is phenomenal. Together we can champion International Women’s Day to make a positive difference to our world and our children’s world in years to come…what conversations will you purposefully plan to have today and beyond in your classroom or home?
Collectively, we can each help to create a gender equal world. We can all choose to be #EachforEqual.
