‘Positive classroom environments don’t just happen, teachers create them.’
‘’The strength of our student relationships makes the difference in translating our passion for teaching into their passion for learning.’ Beth Morrow
We don’t leave things to chance at City Beach Primary School. Positive relationships, connected practice and collaborative planning structures are embedded across our school to target improved student wellbeing, engagement, progress, achievement, and success.
As a staff we have carefully considered class structures for next year knowing the needs of each child, cohort and working within class size recommendations and resourcing limitations. Our focus continues to be on maximising opportunities for teacher collaboration and embedding consistent teaching approaches to improve student success, and this helped us to decide on the following class structure for 2024:
K | PP | Year 1 | Year 2/3 | Year 2/3 | Year 2/3 | Year 4 | Year 5 | Year 6 |
ECB 3 | ECB 1 | Room 1 | Room 2 | Room 3 | Room 4 | Room 5 | Room 6 | Room 7

For every teacher at City Beach Primary School creating a positive classroom climate is a proactive and intentional effort.
Having three Year 1/2 classes this year, has been successful in creating positive dynamics and cohesive classrooms where social and emotional, behavioural and academic needs are balanced. Our safe and connected learning environments have encouraged risk taking and collaboration in learning, and led to enhanced student achievement and progress in all classes.
The decision to run with three combined Year 2/3 classes in 2024 acknowledges that as educators, our teachers teach children, not year levels regardless of the classroom year level composition.
Families with students in Year 1 and Year 2 will receive an email on the afternoon of Tuesday 5 December, to find out who their 2024 Year 2/3 teacher will be. Then on Wednesday 6 December, students will join their classmates when the whole school takes part in an orientation experience to spend the afternoon 1:30pm – 3:10pm, with their 2024 classmates and teachers.
Each of us know the needs of every student and use what we know about their needs to inform our planning for year-on-year progress. Alison and I will be available on the orientation afternoon if you have any questions about our class structures for 2024.
Our teaching focusses on maximum student engagement and success across all areas of the curriculum, in all classrooms. In 2023 teachers in Kindergarten and Pre Primary, Year 3 and 4, and Year 5 and 6 will also work and plan collaboratively.
Ultimately our goal is to create cohesive classrooms that are safe, kind and fair. I am grateful that our teachers and families are committed to positive partnerships for the well-being and success of every student at City Beach Primary School.
